Center performs valuable atmospheric research
When standing in the lobby of the University of Alabama in Huntsville Severe Weather Institute & Radar Lightning Laboratory on Bradford Drive, visitors quickly realize that the circular staircase that winds through the three-story building is reminiscent of a particular weather phenomenon. 
“I call it the million-dollar staircase,” atmospheric science professor Kevin Knupp said of the tornado-shaped stairs, which were so intricate and tricky to build that it delayed the center’s opening by five months. Read more...

Space Agency leader looks toward next journey
“One hundred percent support.”
That pledge from NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to Space Launch System, NASA’s launch vehicle that will transport astronauts back to the moon – and beyond.
NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center welcomed their top leader Aug. 15 for his first visit to the center since being appointed to the position in April. While at Marshall, Bridenstine was briefed on SLS progress, International Space Station science operations, and technology development, before conducting a town hall with Marshall employees. Like many youngsters, Shane Kimbrough always wanted to be an astronaut. But life took him on a different path – to the U.S. Military Academy, Army Aviation School and later, Operation Desert Storm. His childhood dream was nothing more than a memory the day Kimbrough met a man wearing an astronaut flightsuit. Space community celebrates successful launch
“NASA is the keeper of the future and a big part of that future is Mars.” These words, by NASA’s chief scientist Ellen Stofan at the NASA Social live media event Dec. 3 featured on NASA TV, highlighted the excitement in the air with the imminent launch of the Orion Spacecraft on Exploration Flight Test-1 scheduled last Thursday morning. NASA invited members of their social media program to participate in the first-ever multicenter NASA Social event previewing the first flight of Orion. It was the first time that all 10 NASA centers participated in a multimedia event, including Redstone’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Read more...
